Hi all,

I joined the project today with the above card and after solving some minor problem with GPU-Z interfering BOINC, i am now running the WU's normally.

Normally, except that the card is running on half frequency most of time, as you can see in the following photo

Apart from that, the fan level is stuck at 41% ignoring the fact that the card is at 99% load.

For the moment, i've got 78C @ GPU temperature and 88C @ VRMs...i have to force the card to work 100% fan.

Do you use Afterburner? If not try it and see if you can control your fan from it. If you still have problems download ATI Tray Tools from http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=733. This app will force access to your fan control, clocks, as well as many other things.

Are you running a web-browser or watching videos while the app is running? I've noted that having Flash, etc going can prevent the dynamic clocking from working.

Thank you for your replies...

Since this card is based on the Cayman Pro core, i searched how to enable 3D clocks constantly. I bumped on a Cayman feature named AMD Power Tune, where the graphics card can contol the clocks in order to stay at the lowest possible TDP for every case.

The articles wrote that the only way to control it is via the CCC, where a Power Limit from -20% to +20% can be set. I set it on +20% via MSI Afterburner and now the card is working from 589 to 725 MHz for GPU...

ATM i'm running my first WU with these settings, took me 12mins for 46% completion, so i guess that average WU completion with that setting is 26~27mins...

I also increased the fan speed to 65% (5k RPM) to lower my temps. Now i have 68-77-50 for GPU-Shader-VRM (before with 40% was 79-88-51).

MJH, nothing except BOINC client and GPU-z is running at the system. This is my work-in-progress CAD workstation and i just thought to utilize it instead of having it idle.

Thats a useful, interesting, find :) Does that effect appear to be "permanent" or transient. ie

- stops it working until driver/machine/application/"all the above" is reset

or

- stop it working for the duration of Flash being loaded in memory however everything automatically returns to normal when flash closes?

I also tried MJHarvey's advice.

I opened youtube, cinebench, autocad, rhino3D, to find out if detection of any of this apps would force max clocks, but nothing of them worked.

If you have any suggestions, i am ready to try.

When I was using TRIXX or just CCC to overclock, I found that the card only runs at default clock speed while flash is running. As soon as flash is no longer running, the clock speeds return to the overcloccked speed. However, with MSI afterburner, it seems to only momentary lower the speed before afterburner resumes the higher clock rate.

Useful, thanks for that :)
